Lindsay Adler Optical Snoot

Snoots and light modifiers have been around as long as photography and cinematography professionals have been manipulating and utilizing artificial light sources. When it comes to lighting, nothing produces a quality image better than the ability to control and change the light at your discretion. Adding light in just the right places can produce some beautiful, otherwise impossible effects. Enter, the Lindsay Adler Optical Snoot.

What may at first look like an oddly shaped telescope, combined with a plethora of baking tools, is actually one of the most interesting pieces of studio gear in the bag. The main focus is of course, the snoot itself. Providing several choices of mounting options like Bowens, Broncolor, Profoto or Elinchrom, the snoot is capable of joining almost any studio’s arsenal of modifiers.

Over the last few decades, studio modifiers have always attempted to do the same thing; remove or add light the the creative desire of those involved in the final output. Sometimes, this can be challenging as light can travel anywhere and everywhere if you don’t put your foot down! From black cards and flags, scrims and V-Flats, professional photographers are constantly aware of just how sneaky light can be.

Reflections, light leaks and bounce surfaces can all throw light exactly where you don’t want it to go… But not with this puppy!

Incredible Fashion Photography Results

This little thing is able to do what most other snoots in the industry can’t, control the light through the use of the snoot, while producing a high output light that remains sharp and contrasty throughout the entire range. Not only can you use the included Gobo’s to create eye catching, interesting light patters and shadows, but the built in Leaves make customizing each Gobo as easy as possible!

Straight Gelling

The snoot also comes with a variety of color control gels. Many photographers don’t realize that the ability to control the color and intensity with Gel’s can dramatically change their post production workflow, and that by simply adding a specific gel color can completely change the results of a monochromatic workflow, emphasizing areas by more than just adding a light.

There are an additional number of gels you can purchase to fit the included gel holder, or if you already have existing gels in your gear bag you can cut them to suit your current needs and situation.

There is no shortage of combinations and endless creative opportunity with the Lindsay Adler Optical Spot by Westcott. Additional Gobo’s, Gels and other options can help make this one of the most powerful tools in your studio to help stand out from the crowd.
